Asteroid Tribute to Elliott Smith Hits Orbit

In a cosmic honor, an asteroid has been officially named after the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith, over two decades after his death. A minor planet discovered in 2014 will now bear his name, thanks to Edinburgh-based filmmaker Orlando Campopiano's tribute idea. The International Astronomical Union's Working Group for Small Body Nomenclature (WGSBN) has given its seal of approval to the new name.
